Working to rethink local council policy, the Climate Studio was initiated to facilitate the initiation of design-led civic engagement activities, aiming to rethink and tackle climate justice at a neighbourhood scale.
Supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and The Design Museum.
The project featured a series of public-facing workshops with more than one hundred children and young adults. The workshop series encouraged residents to think about their ‘preferred future’ for Southwark and sustainable food, through the development of diegetic prototypes which physically represented the many different touchpoints of future services that pave the way for a future net-zero borough.
The methodology of the project defined the needs, desires and possibilities of communities, placing these within the interlinked challenges of social justice and climate change. Blending imaginative making and politics, this process of facilitation was at the forefront of the workshops in making visions a reality.
